Many of those who decided to skip Black Friday this year opted to shop on Cyber Monday, a day for online holiday shopping where retailers offered deals just as steeply discounted as Black Friday. comScore reported Tuesday that Americans spent more than $1.25 billion online on Monday, the heaviest U.S. online spending day in history.

There’s a certain irony in advertising for social media networks on television, but Google+ recently chose to run a halftime ad during an NFL game in which it differentiated itself from Facebook.  During the Thanksgiving Day game between the Lions and the Packers, Google+ broadcast its first TV commercial and emphasized the network’s “Circles” and “Hangouts.” Social Times has the video.

‘Tis the season for lists, and we’re not talking about wish lists. During the month of December, it seems that everyone is publishing a “best of 2011” roundup, and search engines are no different. Topping Yahoo’s most-searched list for the year is the iPhone; it’s the first time that a tech device has topped the list since PlayStation in 2002. The Biebs (Justin Bieber) topped Bing’s 2011 most-searched list, edging out Kim Kardashian, who topped the list in 2010. Continue Reading…
